Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that he will travel to Turkey this Thursday to personally meet with Vladimir Putin—if the Russian leader agrees to attend.

Speaking to journalists in Kyiv on Tuesday, Zelenskyy said he plans to fly to Ankara midweek and wait alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for Putin’s potential arrival.

If Putin does not arrive and plays games, it is the final point—it means he does not want to end the war,” Zelenskyy told reporters.

Last weekend, Putin proposed direct talks with Zelenskyy in Turkey, but rejected Kyiv and its allies’ demand for a one-month ceasefire as a precondition for negotiations.

U.S. President Donald Trump has also hinted that he may travel to Turkey to lend greater weight to what could be a pivotal meeting aimed at ending the war between the neighboring nations.

Zelenskyy emphasized his determination to reach a truce: “I will do everything to agree on a ceasefire, because it is with [Putin] that I must negotiate a ceasefire—as only he can decide on it.
