As part of a broader peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev, the United States would be willing to recognise the Russian annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. This is according to insiders quoted by Bloomberg.

The United States indeed seems to be fed up with Russia's rigid stance and the ongoing Russian violence. Putin absolutely refuses to make concessions and patience at the White House is running thin. President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Friday that the Trump administration would cease its peace mediation efforts unless there is swift progress.

The Crimea was taken by the Kremlin in 2014 following an invasion. The international community has always opposed the recognition of the peninsula as Russian to avoid legitimising the illegal annexation. Moreover, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has repeatedly said he will not cede any territory to Moscow, including Crimea. The fact that the US would suddenly recognise the illegal Russian annexation would be a significant victory for Russian President Putin.
