Vladimir Putin must come to terms with the fact that a majority of Russians favor a 30-day ceasefire, even as he appears determined to prolong the conflict.

According to a survey conducted by the independent Russian media outlet Levada Center, only 41% of the 1,615 respondents support the Kremlin’s refusal to halt the fighting at this time.

The numbers show that 66% of Russians under the age of 24 want both countries to suspend military actions for a month, a period that could allow for negotiations toward a lasting peace agreement and an end to a war that has now lasted more than three years.

Last weekend, Donald Trump admitted in an NBC News interview that he was frustrated with Putin for questioning Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s legitimacy as Ukraine’s leader.

Following this statement, Trump explained that replacing Zelenskyy would only delay a potential truce, while negotiations between the U.S. and Russia remain at a standstill.
