Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested that Ukraine may launch a strike on Moscow during Russia’s Victory Day celebrations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a three-day ceasefire, from May 8 to May 10, in Ukraine to allow Russia to commemorate the Allied victory in World War II. He also called on the Ukrainian government to observe the brief truce.

However, Kyiv has hinted that a drone strike or missile barrage on Red Square could be on the table. President Zelenskyy said Ukraine would only consider a one-month ceasefire, and only if it were negotiated without preconditions.

We are targeting the sore points in Russia that are most likely to push Moscow toward diplomacy,Zelenskyy said. “They are worried their parade might be in jeopardy—and they’re right to worry. But they should be more concerned about the war continuing. It’s time to end it.”

The Ukrainian president dismissed Putin’s proposed ceasefire as a political ploy.

We value human lives, not parades,” he said. “That’s why we—and the world—believe there’s no reason to wait until May 8 to begin a ceasefire.”
