Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged Vladimir Putin to drop what he called "unnecessary demands" to reach a lasting peace agreement.
Next week, Ukraine and Russia are set to continue peace negotiations in Saudi Arabia, but the Ukrainian president is calling on his Russian counterpart to abandon demands that "prolong the war."
Zelenskyy emphasized that withdrawing Ukraine's NATO membership aspirations as part of a peace deal would be a "real gift" to Moscow.
Both countries have already agreed to a 30-day ceasefire that halts attacks on energy infrastructure.
One of Ukraine's key concerns remains the control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which was supposed to come under U.S. supervision.
The Ukrainian leader is now pushing for a full ceasefire to end Russia's air, land, and sea attacks.
