Why is Ukraine accepting a 30-day ceasefire? (Zelensky)

Ukraine has accepted the American proposal for a 30-day ceasefire across its entire territory.

Zelensky stated that the decision was made to demonstrate that Ukraine is ready for peace.

The Ukrainian president noted that before the meeting between Ukrainian and American teams in Saudi Arabia, discussions revolved around a proposal for a ceasefire in the air and at sea. However, the American side later suggested a different approach.

Mr Zelensky explained that during the meeting, his team contacted him by phone to check whether Ukraine was prepared to take steps towards a ceasefire across the entire territory, which was the main proposal put forward by the American delegation.

"At this moment, it's 100% dependent on Russia, because the United States has demonstrated its position, Ukraine has demonstrated its position, and Russia needs to respond," stated President Zelensky.
