On the eve of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia deployed its troops to Belarus. The planned Russian and Belarusian military exercises West-2025 in the autumn could serve as a cover for the creation of a new intervention group.

For the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi: "All exercises have a purpose. And one of these purposes is to secretly create offensive troop groups. In other words, the appearance of exercises is the most acceptable way to move, redeploy troops, concentrate them in a certain direction and create a troop group. In fact, this started in 2022. You will remember that the detachment was initially created, conducted exercises and we all hoped that they would end and that the Russian troops would return to their territory. But it was decided that these exercises would continue."

Mr. Syrskyi added that it's not possible to affirm that a new offensive from Belarus will occur, but this factor must be taken into account.

The Russian-Belarusian exercise Zapad 2025 will take place in mid-September. Over 13,000 military personnel will participate in the manoeuvres.
