A lawsuit is underway in the United States, after which Meta may be forced to sell its social media network Instagram.
According to the publication, Meta is accused of eliminating competition by acquiring Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014, thus becoming a monopoly. Although these transactions were approved by the US regulator, the Federal Trade Commission at the time of execution, its representatives had warned then that they would monitor the merger's outcomes.
The trial is expected to last several weeks, with Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg, Meta's Chief Operating Officer, set to testify in court.
The company's representatives have already stated that they are confident of victory in court and accused the US regulator of inconsistency. It can be recalled that despite the strained relations between Trump and Zuckerberg that occurred previously, the head of Meta donated a million dollars to Trump's inaugural fund after his victory in the November 2024 elections.
