Tout au plus les estompe-t-il. Dans une répertoire souvent épique voire grandiloquent, la chanteuse anglaise dévoile par bribes une vie aussi cabossée que celle de la plupart d’entre-nous. C’est d’ailleurs en partie ce qui la rend touchante. Avec son quatrième album High As Hope en 2018, cette boule d’anxiété (comme elle se décrit parfois elle-même) n’hésite plus à disséquer ses propres angoisses, à se pencher sur l’avenir de notre planète et même à s’interroger sur son propre vieillissement. , L’année dernière à la sortie de Dance Fever, Florence déclarait au magazine Rolling Stone : Ma façon de donner un sens au monde, c’est de le transformer en mythe et en fable. Transformer les gens et les choses en personnages… C’est comme ça que je traite tout. Elle est bien évidemment consciente que l’image fantasmée que son public perçoit d’elle-même est, dans le même ordre d’idée, for éloignée de se propre réalité quotidienne. En effet, quad on la voit virevolter sur scène, on imagine mal qu’elle se considère comme agoraphobe. Autrefois diagnostiquée comme dyslexique, l’auteure anglaise a toujours conservé et entretenu une passion pour les mots, les mythes et la littérature. Peu encline à la facilité, elle n’aime rien moins que d’élever le propos. Ainsi son dernier album Dance Fever ne fait nullement référence ni aux Bee Gees, ni à une quelconque fièvre du samedi soir. Que du contraire, même s’il ne s’agit pas du seul fil conducteur, l’album fait référence à une mystérieuse épidémie de danse au Moyen-Age (qu’on a aussi appelée la peste dansante). En 1374, dans plusieurs dizaines de cités médiévales réparties le ont du Rhin, des centaines de personnes ont été prises de convulsions dansantes irrépressibles ne s’arrêtant même pas pour boire ou manger. Aucune explication scientifique sérieuse n’a jamais permis de comprendre ce phénomène qui s’est reproduit à d’autres endroits en Europe. Sinon qu’il s’agissait sans aucun doute d’u exutoire aux angoisses du temps.
